Photojournalism and Bias

This image to me speaks sadness. The irony here is the picture is called going home but you can tell somebody won't be going home. There is a great loss. Yet a sense of pride. He plays for the one who is lost and mourns all while doing this. The people in the background are seen crying as well. You can tell something terrible has happened, and it creates this deep knot in my stomach that I can't quite explain. It reminds me of the article Bettye Lane: A Feminist Photojournalist's Arresting Images because the newspapers like to see bad news printed on the front, and this isn't necessarily a print of bad news but more of something immediately grasping your attention in a sad way. This photo uses the in and out of focus method to really stress this man crying and the pain he feels. The way the people are focused out in the back helps center him more and doesn't create too much clutter. The use of black and white makes you solely focus on him too because you're not caught up in the color of peoples outfits, or what they're wearing it's just this moment in time of sadness. The use of his expression is the center piece as well considering he's crying so hard and yet still trying to play all at the same time.

This photo to me is a good representation of yellow journalism and is what I would consider false

To me this is more of a truthful image from a more credible source and isn't necessarily providing opinion more diving into factual information about a presidential campaign.

I chose the first image as a false truth because it was clearly part of a headline that wasn't from a credible source. I chose the second image for a truth because it was more talk of a political campaign from a credible source. This is a clear example of yellow journalism because of the way the headlines are expressed and the material it is from. They use expressions well in the first photo to show anger and like there are severe problems going on. Then they have a lot going on the headline as well with other articles to kind of take your attention all over the place. Then on the times cover they use law of thirds to put the headline on top and close to the center bottom what they're going to talk about more in depth.
